Chiropractic was introduced in the United States by Daniel David Palmer in 1895.
Chiropractic specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions, resulting from mechanical dysfunction of the spine and joints: and the subsequent effects of this on the body's nervous system.
Incorrect function in the spine can result in irritation of the nerves that control movement and posture. Chiropractors, using their hands, manipulate soft tissue and adjust the joints of the spine and extremities at the points where a restriction in movement is detected. Mobility is improved and pain relieved together with the effects of an adjustment being felt long distances from the point at which it was delivered.
The Chiropractic philosophy has been described as holistic, or wholistic, in that it treats the body as a whole “ a network of complicated systems that can profoundly effect each other.
Because of its effectiveness in treating back problems, headaches and other injuries and traumas, chiropractic has become one of the major health care fields in the US.
