The Feldenkrais Method, named after its originator Moshe Feldenkrais, is a mind/body method of improving the way you move and live.
Feldenkrais felt that most of us do just enough physical exercise to get by, and rarely do we push ourselves anywhere near our potential. He reasoned that most of us need to be re-educated to firstly recognize or become aware of these faulty patterns or habits. Only after this awareness could instruction and change begin. The body is then taught how to function with greater ease, fluidity and motion, resulting in better health and improved self image.
The Feldendrais Method involves no pushing, prodding or vigorous manipulation and may be learnt in private or group sessions. Pupils are guided by teachers through a series of slow, gentle sequences of movements, concentrating on only one body segment or joint at a time, without strain or pain.
By moving in new and unusual ways, long forgotten muscle combinations are revived. The feeling is one of intense relief, flexibility and control.
Many people that have experienced the benefits of the Feldenkrais Method including professional athletes, martial artists, musicians, dancers, handicapped people, degenerative diseases and arthritis sufferers amongst our seniors and baby boomers, as well as those seeking relief from pain, stiffness or discomfort in their back and joints.
