Integrative Medicine

March 11th, 2008

Integrative Medicine is a multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare. It is based on a partnership between patient and health provider, where the best of conventional, complementary and alternative medicine practices can be explored, in a whole person approach, to maximise each individual's ability to achieve healing and wellness.

Integrative Medicine neither rejects conventional medicine nor accepts alternative medicine without serious evaluation. Advocates believe that diverse modalities can work in conjunction with each other as part of a unified team rather than in competition. Since the pathway to healing is unique to each patient, this integrated approach ultimately will lead to safer, faster and more effective healthcare.

Integrative medicine, as defined by NCCAM, combines mainstream medical therapies and CAM therapies for which there is some high-quality scientific evidence of safety and effectiveness.
