Introducing the OrthoPortal: An Orthopaedics One-Stop Shop

February 15th, 2011

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Launches A Comprehensive Web Portal On All Things Orthopaedics.

OVERVIEW: The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) unveiled a new Web portal that catalogues musculoskeletal health resources from new and existing orthopaedic-related sites. The OrthoPortal includes access to the highest quality orthopaedic resources in one location -- streamlining the web search process and ultimately, acting as the primary orthopaedic online resource for physicians, patients, allied health professionals and the media.

ORTHOPORTAL FEATURES & BENEFITS:

  • Access to orthopaedic resources in one location:
  • Orthopaedic Knowledge Online (OKO)
  • Journal of the AAOS (JAAOS)
  • Online continuing medical education (CME)
  • eBooks and eMedia
  • Self –assessment study tools
  • Your Orthopaedic Connection (orthoinfo.org)
  • Save Your Knees (saveyourknees.org)
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (aaos.org/DVT)
  • Additional patient education materials
  • Public Service campaigns
  • Academy stamp of approval. A reliable go-to source for the most up-to-date information that surgeons and physicians can recommend to patients who are seeking peer-reviewed information on various musculoskeletal conditions.
  • An entity for patients. The OrthoPortal is a useful site that will serve as a regularly visited health research tool for patients. They can be involved in their own health care. The site gives users access to patient education sites, like orthoinfo.org, in addition to select peer-reviewed journal articles for a small fee.
  • A media resource. Many orthopaedic stories make news headlines. With the help of the OrthoPortal , journalists can access up-to-date stats and figures to use for their articles, the latest orthopaedic research, as well as a variety of topics to search and research for upcoming stories.
  • Free materials. Through the OrthoPortal, members and the public are able to order free Academy education materials such as posters, postcards and coffee table books from various award-winning Academy Public Relations campaigns, programs and special exhibits.

AAOS EXPERT: "The Academy has the richest content in musculoskeletal medicine in the world - that is not an exaggeration," said OKO Editor-in-Chief, William A. Grana, MD, MPH. "We will be adding and enhancing it as time goes on. We wanted our members and anyone searching for orthopaedic content to be able to find it in one place; that place is the OrthoPortal."
